How We Got Here and Keep Moving Forward

It all began on 20 September 1926 when Alfred T. Davis and his business partner established Queensland’s first laundry tub manufacturing business in Bulimba. Over the next 60 years, more than 300,000 pre-cast concrete laundry tubs were produced, many still found in homes today.

In 1932, Alfred’s brother, Frederick Davis, joined the business. When Alfred passed away in 1936, Frederick became sole owner, guiding Everhard through challenges like World War II, when concrete baths were in high demand.

By 1946, Frederick’s son, Selwyn Davis, joined the company and later became part-owner with his brother Noel. Together, they expanded the product range and introduced the Glo-Tub™, Australia’s first coloured laundry unit, in 1964.

Everhard continued to innovate through the 1970s and 1980s, pioneering septic tanks, polymer injection-moulded products, and the Everdrain system. In 2008, leadership passed to Selwyn’s daughter, Sue Boyce. Today, Everhard remains proudly family owned and led by the Davis-Boyce family, with Gina Boyce-Rowe as Chair and and Sue Boyce and Bede Boyce actively involved.

100 years on, Everhard continues to deliver sustainable, Australian-made water and drainage solutions for homes, businesses, and civil projects.

Innovative Australian Solutions Through the Years

1926 – 1929

Queensland’s first concrete laundry tubs

In 1926, Alfred T. Davis and his business partner established Queensland’s first concrete laundry tub manufacturing business in Bulimba. Built to solve everyday Australian household needs, the business laid the foundations for what would become Everhard.

1930-1939

Growth, change, and resilience

The business relocated to Breakfast Creek and adopted the Ever-Hard name. In 1932, Alfred’s brother Frederick Davis joined the company. Following Alfred’s passing in 1936, Frederick became sole owner, guiding the business through a decade of transition.

1940-1949

Demand drives innovation

During the Second World War, shortages of steel and porcelain created strong demand for concrete alternatives. Everhard responded by supplying concrete baths and infrastructure products, reinforcing its reputation for practical, resilient manufacturing. In 1946, Frederick’s sons, Selwyn and Noel Davis, joined the business. A year later, in 1947, they became part owners, marking the arrival of the second generation.

1950-1959

New products, new markets

Everhard expanded its product range with pre-cast concrete grease arrestors and secured a major long-term contract supplying pre-cast concrete pits and covers for what is now Telstra, a relationship that would span more than 40 years.

1960-1969

Redefining the laundry and beyond

In 1964, Everhard launched the Glo-Tub™, Australia’s first coloured epoxy-coated concrete laundry tub, transforming the laundry into a designed space. In 1965, pre-cast concrete septic tanks were introduced, including Queensland’s first direct-to-hole delivery. Manufacturing later moved to a new site in Geebung, supporting continued growth.

1970-1979

From concrete to plastics

The Geebung site became company headquarters as Everhard invested heavily in buildings and machinery. In 1974, the business entered injection-moulded plastics, launching its first polymer drainage trench. In 1976, Everhard released the Multiflow Glo-Tub™, the first polymer laundry tub in the southern hemisphere, establishing a national distribution network.

1980-1989

Leaders in recycled plastics

Throughout the 1980s, Everhard rapidly expanded its polymer manufacturing capability. The Everdrain polymer channel and grate was introduced, forming the foundation of today’s EasyDRAIN range. By the mid-1980s, Everhard was recognised as Australia’s largest manufacturer of recycled plastic.

1990-1999

Infrastructure, steel, and major machinery

Stormwater pits were added to the range, leading to the creation of the steel grates division in 1993. In 1994, Everhard commissioned one of the world’s largest injection moulding machines, enabling production of large-scale polymer tanks and infrastructure products. In 1999, the business expanded further with the acquisition of the Aqua Nova™ brand.

2000-2009

A broader product vision

Everhard evolved into an importer and distributor alongside its manufacturing operations. Kitchen sinks, laundry bowls, taps, basins, vanities, and toilet suites joined the range, reinforcing the company’s “Everything Water” focus. In 2008, Selwyn Davis retired as Managing Director, with Sue Boyce appointed Chair.

2010-2019

90 years of Australian manufacturing

In 2016, Everhard celebrated 90 years of manufacturing excellence. In 2017, Selwyn passed away, leaving a strong legacy of innovation, family leadership, and Australian manufacturing values.

2020-Today

Sustainability and innovation

Today, the business remains proudly family-owned, with Sue Boyce serving as Chair alongside her daughter, Gina Rowe-Boyce. Sue’s brother, Bede Boyce, is also an active owner, continuing the family’s involvement in the business. Everhard remains one of Australia’s largest recycled plastic manufacturers. With ongoing product innovation and an evolving industry landscape, Everhard continues to build on nearly a century of experience.
